Cherokee Washington High School, located in Cherokee, IA, is an excellent educational institution that offers a wide range of athletic programs for both girls and boys. The school takes great pride in its athletic program, which includes football, basketball, volleyball, soccer, tennis, golf, cross country, track and field, wrestling, and baseball. The football and basketball programs at Cherokee Washington High School are particularly noteworthy. The Cherokee Braves football team competes in the state association's Class 2A level and has a long-standing rivalry with the Spirit Lake Indians. The Braves consistently field a highly competitive team that has made several trips to the state playoffs over the years. On the basketball court, the Cherokee Braves boys' team is a perennial contender in the rugged Lakes Conference. The girls' team also has a strong tradition and competes in the upper echelon of the conference. Their rivals include the likes of the Storm Lake Tornadoes, the Spirit Lake Indians, and the LeMars Bulldogs.
